When it comes to social networking, the spammers and hackers are usually only one step ahead of the good guys. Why is that? And when you take out trash the night before garbage day, you can always tell that the animals got to it, by the mess they leave on the ground next to the can. Same thing happens when you take down a spammer, a new one take its place. Are Twitter users under attack? Again? Read on...
This time Twitter users are being assulted by drive by spambots that want you to click on a unsuspecting link that brings you to a site that tries to auto-install malware or some type of trojan to make your computer part of their botnet. Solely for the purpose of increasing their numbers to send out more spam. If you get an email that reports it was from Twitter, be vary careful and examine the headers before clicking on any links with in it. If the url within the click link does not conform to Twitter.com and has a totally different url associated with it, then you know for sure its a bogus email. Be sure to check the header for where the email was sent from. If it says anything other than coming from X-DomainKeys: Sendmail DomainKeys Filter v1.0.2 mx001.twitter.com Then more than likely its a fake and should be deleted. See below for an example fake.
